How To Use SEO Keywords To Rank Higher On Google

September 16, 2019

So you want to rank higher on Google’s search engine? Well so does everyone else, so buckle up because it’s time to get creative with your SEO campaigns to dominate the competition.

So how do you get your page to rank higher on Google?

First and foremost, there is no guarantee that you will always rank on the first page of Google. Keep that in mind because there are no guarantees in the world of SEO. One day you’ll be on the first page, the next you could be on the second page. However, there are tried and true methods that have proven to significantly strengthen search rankings

Our Boca Raton Ad Agency expertly oversees SEO efforts on a daily basis and we would like to break it down into 5 key components.

1. DO YOUR RESEARCH

You’d be surprised by how many people nowadays still believe keyword research isn’t important. They’re wrong. It’s just as important now as it’s ever been. In fact, the only way to make sure you can compete against your competition is to do your research and learn from it. You should always be researching and monitoring the activity and rankings of your keywords. Then comparing them with your competition to see how well they are doing. Sometimes you will have the higher-ranked keyword, other times you won’t, this is where you need to get creative. The next step is to either create content that helps boost the keyword’s ranking or ditch it if it doesn’t bring in quality traffic.

We recommend looking for keywords that aren’t highly competitive, yet have a respectable number of monthly searches. For example, if you’re searching for shoes, you’re probably not going to search a generic keyword “shoes”, you’re going to search for a specific type and/or brand of the shoe such as “Nike running shoes men”.

We recommend running your selected keywords through Google’s Keyword Planner tool to find out how much competition you’re facing. The key is to create more descriptive keywords. Ask yourself, what does my audience search for when they want to find my content? When someone searches the keyword you’re trying to rank for, are they searching to browse, shop, or buy?

2. WRITE KEYWORD-RICH ARTICLES

To rank higher in Google’s search result, it is essential to write articles with the proper balance of keywords. You should also know exactly how to use keywords as they can hurt as much as they can help.

Make sure you use keywords in your meta description at least once, but no more than twice. The meta description acts as a simple summary to describe the content of a page.

You should try to use keywords in your title whenever possible. Since Google pairs this title header with your meta description to paint a picture of what your content is about, having the keyword in the title is very helpful as long as it can be used naturally.

Always use keywords within the first 200 words of your content as Google gives more weight to this portion of content.

Always use keywords in headers because it brings more emphasis to the meaning and importance of the keywords. This allows the search engines to know how relevant those keywords are to your content.

Using keywords in an image alt-tag helps images appear in searches containing that keyword. It also helps to prove that your content is in fact related to that search.

3. PAY ATTENTION TO USER INTENT

It’s time to focus on the why behind a user’s search query.

For example, if someone types in “Buy Nike men's running shoes”, you can safely assume the user’s intent is to make a purchase. However, if the keyword is “Nike men's running shoes reviews”, you can assume the user’s intent is to gain information and not to purchase just yet. We recommend including both so you may both educate and sell the product and help direct them to your website so they can learn more or buy.

4.  WRITE, WRITE, WRITE

If you want to rank higher in Google, you better get used to writing. A lot.

Let’s face it. If you’re blogging once a month, you’re not generating enough content to get ranked. Always generate content that is relevant to your audience. Help your audience by getting straight to the crucial information they are looking for. Articles that rank high in Google are typically 2,000+ words and filled with pictures, videos, and internal links. Don’t just fill a document with words and post it, make it visually appealing in all aspects.

We recommend whenever you write an article, you should treat it as more of a “guide” than a blog. Your goal should be to educate whoever is viewing your content.

5. MARKET YOUR NEW ARTICLE LIKE CRAZY!

Now that you’ve finished creating your blog, it’s time for you to share it everywhere! Posting it on social media is a given, but there’s much more to it. What really matters is telling the right people.

Reach out to influencers to see if they’d be willing to link to your content; create a YouTube audio version of your content with a link back to the article in the description, or even create a podcast with a summary of your article.

Do everything in your power to get your article out to the public, whatever it takes, because it’s your masterpiece, you have to show it off to the world.

The more your article is seen, the better your odds of ranking higher on Google.

CONCLUSION

If you put effort into creating quality content that offers real value and you market your content effectively, you can expect to see your content rank higher on Google. Delivering real solutions to real people is the key to succeeding in your SEO campaign. Your content must be better than everyone else’s, so put in some extra time and don’t expect immediate results.

Remember; research your competition and your audience, write keyword-rich headlines, pay attention to user intent, create valuable content, then get to marketing it!
